Here I discuss four parts to Holmes’ method.
1. Seeing but not making inferences,
2. Simple steps,
3. Eliminate the impossible,
4. Getting to the elementary.
The evidence is there but the mind does not use reason to make the necessary inferences. This is applied to the problem of divine hiddenness. Is God absent? Do we need more evidence? Or is the evidence full and clear from the things that have been made? The eternal power and divine nature of God are clearly revealed. What is the implication for unbelief? Job is also mentioned as a useful example. Consider Job’s repentance and his statement that now he sees God.
